Romantic & Active Mini-Moon in Hudson Valley, New York State

After spending a few days in Hudson Valley this past weekend and doing some fun activities, here is the summary of what we did. It's fun to keep a record of it to look back on and maybe someone can get ideas for a similar weekend or even day trip. P.S. This is a long blog post, so keep on scrolling ;) Storm King Art Center  www.stormking.orgWe started our weekend on Friday morning and decided that it would be best to visit Storm King first in order to skip the weekend visitors. Said and done, we drove up and got to enjoy the entire sculpture park (almost) all to our selves. We started at the Museum building, parked our car, and then walked the entire park by foot (see map here). I thought it would take something like 3-4 hours, but we managed to see pretty much everything in around 2 hours. It really is such a beautiful park and all the sculpture are big and impressive looking. Definitely worth a visit. We were really lucky with the weather as well, it started off really gloomy but halfway through it cleared up and became a sunny day. The view you get from the Museum building, it's located up on a hill.  While I my mind this platform looked designed to stand on for a great photo op, I later learned that you're not allowed to actually stand on any of the sculptures (ops). With my handsome man. Here they have designed the hills in the shape of waves. Millbrook Vineyards & Winery  www.millbrookwine.com After Storm King we didn't go straight to winery but did a pit stop in Beacon first for some lunch. From there it took about 1 hour drive to Millbrook Vineyards and we came right on time for their "Friday Night Food Trucks". They have this event every Friday until September from 5:00-8:00pm. We got there early on and I think that was the best because we got a good seat on their balcony overlooking the vineyard and skipped all the lines to the food and wine. This winery is so cute and people working there are really friendly. They even have a "house dog" that walks around with no leash *love*. Anyways, a bottle of rose for $18.00 is such a great deal and we finished half of it on the balcony and brought the rest with us while walking around their property. Such a cute and romantic activity, definitely one of my favorite moments this weekend. Sipping on rose at a winery with my love and a whole weekend ahead of activities <3  The view from up the hill of the their vineyard. To the right (not pictured) is their main house. Kaaterskill Falls www.hikethehudsonvalley.com/kaaterskill-fallsSo happy we spontaneously decided to do this hike, it was amazing! Very easy to get to and probably even easier if you skip the first part (that we walked) and park right by busy entrance to the waterfall. Although I don't mind the way we did it because it gave us a little more exercise. You can stop at 4 different spots and get a different view of the waterfall and the valley, all 4 are equally beautiful to be completely honest. So I would recommend to start from the top and then hike to the bottom of the waterfall. All the different spots are well marked with arrows. Anton and I couldn't stop taking photos of the waterfall because it is just so stunning and it just impossible to capture its beauty on camera (well at least not with an iPhone camera lol). Also, important side not, please be careful because it is really steep at certain areas and you can easily slip and fall. Now reading more about the falls I found several stories about people actually dying... so be very careful!  Don't worry we were not close to the edge at all, although it sort of looks like it in the photos. We were very (!) careful. It was even more beautiful in person. A skinny waterfall but a really tall one (or do you say "long", idk but you get the point).  Although I might have had a little mini tantrum about Anton not being a good picture taker (lol), it was still a really romantic spot. Love you babe <3.Last year we did a similar trip on the West Coast to Lake Arrowhead, where we hiked and explored a more "countryside" city and area.  Town Tinker Tube Rental www.towntinker.comThis was definitely the most intense activity we did, and a bit scary as well. When I first looked it up online I assumed it would just be a chill cruise down a lazy river, but boy was I wrong haha. Now going back to their website it does say "The Esopus Creek is “NOT” a lazy river", so ops my bad for not reading the description. So definitely not an activity for someone that doesn't want to get her hair wet, because I got completely thrown off my tube and did a 360 under water. I was lucky to get back up on my feet quickly and not lose my tube, because there are so many rocks and edges that can scrape and bruise you if you're not careful. But with all this said, it was a cool experience and I am glad we did it, but once is probably enough.I don't have too many photos from this activity because if I had brought my phone it would've definitely been lost in the river.  Anton standing next to our tubes, helmet (definitely worth the extra $5!) and life jackets. This old school bus loads up all the gear and drives you 1-2 miles further up where you start going down the river.  Fishkill Farms www.fishkillfarms.com An apple orchard and mixed fruit and vegetable farm where you can pick your own fruit. Entrance is $5/person and then you pay per pound. The prices vary but we paid around $6-7/pond for the cherries and a bit less for the peaches. I enjoyed this visit and while the cherries turned out being a bit expensive, it was worth it for the experience and location.  Sour cherries. These peaches just made it into my peach pie last night.  EXTRA 1. Land for Sale On Saturday morning we did a little excursion to 40 minutes outside of Albany to look at a land for sale. Not ready to invest or buy anything yet, but it was fun to check it out and dream of the future a bit. Even got to chat with one of the neighbors in the area and learn more about the lot. Their house right on the lake had a great location. 2. Drive-in movie theatre  On our way back to the hotel on Saturday we drove by this sign pointing to a drive in movie theater. In two seconds we decided "lets check it out", so a U-turn later we had bought tickets and watched the new Spiderman movie with all the locals. Neither of us have ever gone to a movie theater where you sit in your car and watch the movie, but I loved it. Also their snack selection and prices were way better than the Arclight or AMC lol.
