Montauk!

Working in the US. is quite different, not to talk about the lack of holidays. As it is my first year working, which puts me at the bottom of the ladder, I have zero holidays. Yes, you heard me - quite the opposite from the Swedish 6 weeks or whatever it is. Sooo when I last week managed to take 4 days off by putting together comp days (for example I worked 4th of July, which makes me eligible to take it as a day off later), no one was happier than me. As my parents were here visiting we decided to get out of the boiling city for a while and go to Montauk, Hamptons for a few days. Wow it was great to have a mini-vacay. Montauk was truly beautiful so I thought I'd share some recommendations if you ever happen to visit.  Where to stay:  The lovely pool at Montauk Beach House (http://thembh.com/) - We chose to stay at The Montauk Beach house which was great. TMBH used to be a tacky motel which they completely turned into a hip, beautiful and cool hotel. The rooms were huuge and everyday they would play great music while you enjoyed the sunbeds by the pool. Overall very satisfied with the choice. Of course there are plenty of places to stay when in Montauk but by the people we met they all agreed on that TMBH would not disappoint.  Where to eat:  During our 4 days there we ate out every lunch and dinner as I had carefully researched and booked the places I thought we had to try out. My favorites came to be; - Gosmans. As our hotel provided bicycles we went on long tours everyday to explore the place. I had gotten recommended Gosmans from on of the hotel guests where I work who grew up in Montauk. So the first day we biked to the main harbor where Gosmans is located and ordered lobster. Yummmm it was delicious and completely fresh. A great place for lunch.  Rhain waiting for his surf and turf at Gosmans  - Another fun place to eat at is the Surf Lodge. The Surf Lodge is also a hotel located a bit outside the "city center" where I would probably stay if I were to be in Montauk with friends only, as it has quite a young vibe to it. It was great to try it out for dinner with my family though as the place is really cool. We started off by having a drink in the sunset listening to their band that played Bob Marley before we took our seats by the main outside dining area. The food was good, with options like lobster mac n cheese and crispy soft shell crab, however I would say that you mostly come here for the setting and people watching. Book a table before as it tend to get very crowded.  The beautiful bar area by Surf Lodge, located right on the lake.  - Other great places to eat include Arbor (a new modern restaurant serving anything from pizza to seafood), Tacombi La Brisa (the popular Mexican place that can also be found in Soho and Nolita) and Salt Box (rumored to have the best lobster roll in the area).  05.45 stroll at the beach to watch the sunrise  What to do:  - Sunrise! Here you have two options; either get woken up by your jet lagged parents or simply go down to the beach after a night of partying. The sunrise at the beach though is a must. It is so sooo beautiful and barely any people except some ambitious surfers and seagulls. Another location to see the sunrise from is the lighthouse point.  - Fishing. Our last day we decided to charter a boat from 5.15 in the morning until 10.30 in order to experience some real fishing. I didn't expect much as my previous fishing experience was quite limited. However I turned out to be a natural catching the biggest fish of them all, a 20 kg striped bass. The whole thing was SO fun and now we have fish in the freezer for 2 years ahead.  - Horseback riding. At Deep Hollow Ranch you can go on a horse riding tour first in the forest to then come out at the beach. As the horse lover I am it was just amazing. It took around 2h and the horsies were great.  Me and Blaze on tour in the forest Coming out to Montauk was such an energy boozer and a chance to relax to all of what the city has to offer (which is also great, most of the times). I would really recommend to rent a car as it takes only 2.5h to go by car an quite a bit more by train if I'm not wrong. It is the perfect place to go both with friends and family as it has something for everyone.Hej hej!
