NEW YORK : BY A NON BORN NEW YORKER - MY OWN LITTLE COLUMN

- IS IT POSSIBLE TO DATE A CITY? The question I’m still trying to find the answer to since moving here. Is it okey to date a city? Is it actually possible to feel this much love for a city? So I’m tradig men for a city. New York Have a lot of things, but handsome men is not something this city is rich of. Instead we have the typical construction workers that yells after you when you go past them on your way to the gym. We also have the kind of men that picks you up on the club and just because they’re lucky enough to get in to the club they think women wants them, not true. There’s also the kind of men that tries to flirt with you by showing of their platinum A-mex at the bank. Yes, that happens.  When comparing the dating life here to the life back in Sweden it’s so different you can’t even imagine. I have love-hate kind of relationship to dating here. I’d like to consider myself as a feminist, but it’s very hard to be a feminist when every time you go on a date the guy needs to pay. He actually feels obligated to pay for the date. If you by any reason even reaches for your wallet, it’s a crime. Since we’re not in Sweden a date consist of dinner or drinks, not a movie at your moms place like it is back home in the north. So every time you go out with a guy and you end up not wanting to go on more dates, you kind of get a bad conscious because it actually feels like you’re just using the poor souls. Literally poor, because dinner here is expensive.  After every incident with men in this city I start to question the same thing, how can this wonderful city contain such horrible men? No, I need to stop myself, there are some good guys out there. The only question is, where are them? Are they hiding out in Brooklyn or in the east Village? Do they actually leave their apartments or are they all chained to their kitchens? Because when walking down the streets in New York you see gorgeous looking models and gays, but no men. When I was walking the streets of London I could see handsome men in every street corner. Now I need to go down every street corner to find someone relatively good looking fella.  New York has a lot to offer, good parties, amazing food, gorgeous art and a whole lot of opportunities. But the best thing this city has to offer is, Whole Foods, kidding. Everything that exists in the city makes New York. The smell, the noises and the people. To find the right kind of people in New York you need to be at the right place at the right moment. I’m completely in love with what this city has to offer, even the men. Because if I get to live in this beautiful city I can happily accept the men even if they aren’t the best. Because I don’t need to date men, I’m dating New York city.
